REVIEW: RMS Beauty
Week 6: 100 Days of Pure Living – Low Tox Makeup
Week 6 has been a very exciting week! I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to switch my make up over to something natural and RMS Beauty with it’s cult like following seems like an excellent choice. RMS Beauty products focus is not only organic, raw and non-toxic, but that it actually heals and nourishes the skin, enhancing natural beauty. RMS is actually the initials of it’s creator, Rose-Marie Swift, a well known makeup artist, and according to the website it also stands for “Real Make-up Secrets” and “Right Mental State”.
So this week I tried the “un” cover-up foundation or concealer, lip2cheek tint and the luminizer and I am loving this almost edible range! If switching to a low tox beauty option is on your list RMS Beauty is definitely a brand worth trying out. Read on to get all juicy the details.
RMS Beauty was first introduced to me while shopping at Mecca Cosmetica. After looking around and reading a few reviews on low tox beauty alternatives, I decided RMS Beauty was my first choice and went back to Mecca to get a bit more information and walked out with the “un” cover-up in shade #22 $52, lip2cheek in modest $52 and the magic luminizer $55.
*Note you can only get RMS Beauty at Mecca Cosmetica, not Mecca Maxima.
I used the three products together every day for the last week over a natural lightweight mosituriser.
I used the “un” cover-up shade #22 (light to medium) as a light coverage foundation (I don’t wear a lot of make up normally) and thanks to the anti bacterial coconut oil in the ingredients it literally melted into my skin. It has a balmy soft texture and was easy to apply with my fingers to give a nice even coverage. The coverage is quite sheer and dewy and while it didn’t hide all my imperfections it certainly softened any areas of redness and age spots and it gave my skin a lovely glow. It was also easy to build a heavier coverage in specific areas of concern.
Next was the lip2cheek in modest, for some colour on my cheeks and my lips in a lovely mid tone pink berry colour. The texture is thicker than I expected and a matt finish. It blended easily and gave my cheeks a nice rosey pink blush. The lip colour is great for every day wear but I definitely needed a moisturising lip balm over the top to keep my lips from drying out too much I don’t normally wear matt finish lip products). This is my first try at a cream blush (vs powder) and I’m definitely pleasantly surprised with the stay-ability.
Lastly was the magic luminizer for a bit of ethereal glow! While the living lumizer is a cult favourite among many celebrities and makeup artists alike, I decided the champagne pigment was a better more natural match for my skin tone. I used a small amount warmed between my fingers and applied to the top of my cheek bones, brow bones and in the inner corners of my eyes. I used only a small amount and it went on smoothly and dried quickly. It was a little bit hard to blend because I didn’t want to disrupt the “un” cover-up underneath too much. The result was a lovely pop of dewy warmth and radiance that blended well with my skin tone and looked like a very natural highlight.
Packaging for RMS Beauty products is minimal, and all of it is biodegradable, recyclable or reusable. I love this minimalist packaging, it’s small and compact and means I’m not carrying around heavy jars and bottles in my makeup bag. The containers are small circular jars in the following sizes: “Un”cover-up 5.67g, and lip2cheek and the magic luminizer both 4.82g.

EWG’s rating for all three products: 1
// the good
- Organic, raw and virtually edible ingredients
- Great range of colour options for “un”cover-up and lip2cheek
- Moisturising but not oily
- Easy to apply
- Minimalist packaging great for travelling or use on the go
// the bad
- Price, quite expensive for all there products
- Could be too moisturising for oily skin
- Cream products take me longer to apply and probably don’t last quite as long on the skin – having said that I much prefer a dewy finish so have given powder a miss for quite a few years now!
// the verdict
I was really hoping i would find my ‘holy grail’ of cosmetics in RMS Beauty products, and guess what.. I have! I love the natural (and short) almost edible ingredient list, the colour options to match a range of skin tones and occasions, the healing properties that actually feel like my skin is really being nourished and moisurised and the minimalist packaging. All of these have turned out to be the perfect fit for me and I’m willing to spend the higher price point for a really quality product.
